On the National Register of Historic Places and a member of the League of Historic American Theatres, the Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater is one of downtown Lumberton’s most historic landmarks. Built in 1928 as a movie palace, it was saved from destruction by concerned citizens of Robeson County. The Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater is available for rental for special events or productions and offers special rates for nonprofits.

Downtown Riverwalk and River Walk/Bike Trail

The Downtown Riverwalk is a short trail along the banks of the Lumber River with beautiful fencing and a viewing platform.  Along the walkway, an artfully enhanced bench is provided for rest and relaxation.  Enjoy a stroll with nature in our friendly community.

 

 

River Walk is a paved pedestrian/bicycle river trail with scenic views of the Lumber River.  It provides a quiet atmosphere, ideal for bird watching.  River Walk  can be accessed from the Luther Britt Park entrance on West 5th St.   The trail is approximately 1.5 miles from beginning to end or 3 mile round trip.

Dr. Raymond B. Pennington Athletic Complex (formerly Northeast Park)

Dr. Raymond B. Pennington Athletic Complex, host site for the 2018 Dixie Youth Baseball World series, and host site for the inaugural D2 Dixie Youth World Series in 2019, is a 140 acre park that is a state of the art athletic complex featuring six baseball/softball fields, five batting cages, a scoring tower, two concessions stands; two regulation football/soccer fields, .75 mile walking trail, two picnic shelters, one large play unit, plus an open space area with shade trees for family fun. The complex is open daily from sun rise to sunset for individuals of all ages.  Pennington Park will be the host site for the D1 Dixie Youth World Series in 2021.

The Proctor Law Office Building

 

Built in the early 1800’s, the Proctor Law Building is the oldest structure in Lumberton. There is a small collection of period artifacts and documents.  From I-95 take exit 20 and travel east on Hwy. 211 (Roberts Ave) to Elm St. Go south on Elm St. to 6th Street in downtown Lumberton.  The building is owned by Historic Robeson, Inc. and serves as their headquarters.  Disabled Veterans, Confederate Veterans and other historical organizations meet at this historical building.  Tours are free and shown by request.

The Stage – Fairmont Arts & Culture Center

The Stage – Fairmont Arts & Culture Center is an arts and entertainment facility located in historic downtown Fairmont, across from the BB&T Bank on West Thompson Street.  The building produces a calendar of events in addition to being available for rentals.  The auditorium seats 70 people theatre style and 48 people banquet style.  A full size dressing room with a make-counter, mirror and private bathroom supports theatrical productions.  No kitchen is available, however The Stage does offer a food prep area with warming stations and a refrigerator.
