Lumberton is full of history, food and fun!

Lumberton has many options for families of all ages.  Get outdoors and go strawberry or blueberry picking at Jack Pait Strawberry Farm or rent a canoe at Riverway Outfitters and explore the natural beauty of the Lumber River.  The kids can play dress up at the interactive Exploration Station or skate the afternoon away at Mr. P’s Skateworld.  End the afternoon with a little family competition at the Lumberton Bowling Center or a stroll around our historic downtown to check out the art windows, interactive butterfly mural or the Riverwalk.

Explore the rich tobacco and cotton history of our county at the Robeson County History Museum.  On the National Register of Historic Places, the restored 1928 Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater was once a vaudeville and silent film house and is now a home for films and live performances.  The African American Cultural Center and the Museum of the Southeast American Indian are full of history and cultural experiences that shouldn’t be missed.  If you’re in the creative mood, the Inner Peace Center for the Arts Gallery and the “Guild House”, home of the Robeson Arts Guild in the Downtown District, should be on your itinerary.

Bring your golf clubs and play a round at one of our three picturesque golf courses while the kids enjoy swimming at Luther Britt Park, and follow the StoryWalk Robeson trail displaying pages of books.  Couples can enjoy wine tastings at Stephens Vineyard & Winery, Locklear Vineyard and Winery, or visit Painted Pony Vineyards where the whole family can visit a 64-acre working farm with miniature horses and goats, all just a short 30-minute drive from Lumberton.

The art gallery is located on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, in Locklear Hall. The gallery’s open hours are Monday-Thursday from 9:00am to 5:00pm, Friday 9:00am – 3:00pm, Wednesday evenings -5:00pm – 9:00pm. The gallery is closed on weekends and when classes are not in session. Please check the gallery’s website for information regarding the currently featured exhibit.

African American Cultural Center

Collection of artifacts and paintings/photographs. Contributions and accomplishments of local African Americans are highlighted. Facility has a kitchen and can accommodate up to 100 people, and also used as a distribution center in disaster relief. Call between 9am to 5pm for an appointment.

Border Belt Farmers Museum and Welcome Center

Early tobacco warehouse artifacts and farming equipment are on display in this converted Atlantic Coastline Railway Depot. Look at the early years of other Robeson County industries such as railway, timber and turpentine with exhibits on tobacco, cotton and other products of Robeson County. Cukabury Farms LLC offers a facility to that will seat 100 people, additional space on the porch, a pavilion, bridal suite, lots of perks for weddings, family reunions, church meetings, bridal showers, birthday parties, etc.  Tents are optional.  No alcohol permitted. Fairmont Golf Club

Fairmont Golf Club is located five miles off I-95 on the Southeastern edge of Fairmont North Carolina only one hour from Pinehurst and a little over an hour to the North and South Carolina Beaches including Myrtle. The Downtown Riverwalk is a short trail along the banks of the Lumber River with beautiful fencing and a viewing platform. One block East is the plaza with a water feature, metal sculpture, alley with paintings and benches for relaxing. Take a photo pretending to be a butterfly.  Continue through the alley to view a mural illustrating flora and fauna, daylilies, a blue heron and the Lumber River.  Another block away, visit the Robeson County History Museum at 101 South Elm Street.
