Virtual Spotlight on Local Talent

Virtual Spotlight on Local Talent---  This series features intimate performances by regional artists who have a connection to the theater or have previously appeared on the theater’s stage. The series is directed by the theater’s Resident Artist and Production Manager, Kendrix Singletary, who has worked closely with each artist to create a very personal experience for performers and viewers. These performances are being screened on the theater’s Facebook page at “Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater” ‪at 7pm on May 16, 23, 30 and ‪June 6, and subsequently will be available for viewing on its web site at www.carolinaciviccenter.com.  Additional performances may be added in the near future, so please go to the web site for all updates.

Rescheduled to September 1st....Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1951, Harjo is a member of the Mvskoke/Creek Nation. She is the author of several books of poetry, including An American Sunrise, which is forthcoming from W. W. Norton in 2019, and Conflict Resolution for Holy Beings. She is a current chancellor of the Academy of American Poets and lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The poet laureate of the United States is appointed annually by the Librarian of Congress. Over the course of the one-year term, which lasts from September to May, the U.S. Poet Laureate presents a reading and lecture at the Library of Congress and often engages in a community-oriented poetry project with national reach. Tickets are available at the GPAC box office, general admission is $10, $5 for faculty/staff/children.  Free to students with a valid ID.

The River Voices concert series features music and poetry composed/written by local Robeson County award winning performing artists. Two of the pieces in the concerts were debuted in New York's Carnegie Hall. The pieces will vary from Blue Grass to Classical, to Piedmont Blues and Religious. Four of our performers just returned from concerts in Washington, DC at the Library of Congress Concert Hall and the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage. Our fifth performer comes from the University of North Carolina music program and is wonderfully skilled on Saxophone, Clarinet, and Flute. All in all it will give you the opportunity to hear Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall worthy performances right here in  our own Robeson County venues.
