Dr. Raymond B Pennington Athletic Complex
Dr. Raymod B Pennigton Sports Complex is an athlete’s dream. With six baseball/softball fields, five batting cages, a scoring tower, two regulation football/soccer fields, and a .75-mile walking trail; plus, two concession stands, two picnic shelters, an all-inclusive playground, and much more, this is an athletic complex you don’t want to miss. It is also the home to Robeson Community College’s Diamond Eagles who are starting off their first season undefeated. It is also the soon to be home of Robeson Community College’s upcoming softball team.
Pickle Ball
Lumberton has many pickle ball courts located throughout the city. Whether you like playing inside or out, we have a place for you. Play outdoor at our Meadow Road Park located at 657 Burns Road in Lumberton, and adjacent to a dog park. It’s the perfect place to stop and get some exercise in after a long day of travelling. Play indoor at the Bill Sapp Center, located at 1100 North Cedar Street in Lumberton and offering loaner paddles and balls, in case you forgot to pack your own!
Golf
Lumberton’s golf scene is one you don’t want to miss. With three 18-hole courses within 20 miles of the city, it’s a golfer’s paradise.
Pinecrest Country Club
Pinecrest Country Club, a beautiful course located on the outskirts of Lumberton, is the perfect place to tee off. Complete with a driving range, practice putting green, club house with snack bar and meeting and dining facilities, this is a favorite of local and travelling golfers alike.
Fairmont Golf Course
Located about 17 miles from Lumberton, Fairmont Golf Course is the place to tee. Whether you’re aiming for a relaxed outing with friends or a serious game, this course has something for you. Along with their 18-hole course, Fairmont Golf Course offers four sets of tees (ranging from 4,709 to 6,755 yards) to match your skill level, a fully stocked pro shop, and a snack bar and grill.
Scothurst Golf Course
Just a short drive from Lumberton, and a great course for beginners, Scothurst Golf Course is another great option. With a range of tee options and a practice range, this is a great course to bring the whole family to and make some memories that will last a lifetime.
Races and Runs
Lumberton has many races throughout the year From 5ks to 10ks to fun runs and glow runs, Lumberton has many opportunities for everyone to stay active and competitive while having fun. A favorite event that always draws in people from across the country is the Rumba on the Lumber. The UNC Health Southeastern 5k and 10k are held each year during the event which had over 5000 attendees last year. These included some from Ohio, Virginia South Carolina, and New England. The event is held by the Robeson Road Runners each year and also features Food Trucks, live music, a chili cook off, kids’ zone, and more. The next Rumba on the Lumber will be held on March 6th and 7th, 2026.
