Sixteenth century engravings by Theodor de Bry exhibit from the  Michael N. Joyner Collection at the Ackland Art Museum, is featured at the Museum of the Southeast American Indian on campus at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

 

For more than 400 years the world has viewed the first illustrations of Native peoples through Theodor de Bry’s engravings.  Based on John White’s watercolor paintings, this collection of 16th century engravings depict Algonquian peoples during the 1587 settlement of the Roanoke Colony.

 

Visit the museum February 14th – May 14th to experience first-hand this remarkable exhibit.  Museum hours are 9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday – Friday and on March 19th during the American Indian Powwow.
