“Patchwork of the Past” Exhibit

Robeson County History Museum's quilting exhibit. Featuring quilts in every room of the museum, owned and/or installed by the women of the Lumber River Quilter’s Guild. To see how scraps of cloth become folk art, a visit to the museum is in order. Many local quilts are on display. Some are heirlooms, and some contemporary and creative examples, such as the “Hungry, Hungry Caterpillar,” a take on the famous children’s book by Vickie Locklear, and “Christmas” by Cappy Kreminski. The exhibit is an education in quilting. Samples of standard quilting squares are on display. These include: Jacob’s Ladder, Bear’s Paw, Log Cabin, Monkey Wrench, Wagon Wheel, Crossroads, Basket, North Star and more. The Robeson County History Museum is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon and Sundays 2 to 4 p.m. If you would like to attend outside of these hours, we recommend that you call ahead and schedule an appointment - the museum is always happy to serve. Solar Eclipse Viewing at Robeson Community College

Solar Eclipse Glasses will be available for the first 500 attendees.   Robeson Community College will sponsor an indoor viewing of a live feed of the Solar Eclipse on Monday. The viewing can accommodate approximately 500 people and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The live feed will feature the eclipse from a geographic area that will be experiencing a total eclipse as opposed to the 97% eclipse that is expected in Robeson County.   People who want to take advantage of this opportunity should report to the Fred G. Williams Student Center on campus Monday afternoon. The Lumbee Tribe, in collaboration with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, will host Lumbee Days at the NMAI in Washington, D.C.  This momentous event is an opportunity to showcase our people, our culture, our history, and our artists to the world. A pre-event Reception, with a live performance by Lumbee artist Charly Lowry, will be held on Thursday evening at 6 p.m.  If you plan to attend the Reception, please RSVP Ms. Camera Brewer at cbrewer@lumbeetribe.com.  Friday and Saturday will feature Cultural Presentations and Demonstrations:  Traditional Song & Dance, River Cane Flute Playing, and Tobacco Tying.  A historical video depicting the life of Henry Berry Lowrie will be shown followed by a live performance.  There will be live musical performances by Lumbee artists Mark McKinney & Company and by the Lumbee Gospel group The Deal Family.  Targeting kids and their families, we will feature hands-on activities demonstrating how to make cornhusk dolls, gourd rattles, and pottery.  Additionally, a Strike at the Wind historical video will be shown on a continuous loop in Rooms 4018 and 4019.  Event is free and open to the public. An Evening on the Red Carpet Benefit Fundraising Auction
