Patriot Nations: Native Americans in Our Nation’s Armed Forces

Patriot Nations: Native Americans in Our Nation’s Armed Forces tells the remarkable history of the brave American Indian and Alaska Native men and women who served in the United States military.  Native peoples have participated in every major US military encounter from the Revolutionary War to today’s conflicts in the Middle East, serving at a higher rate in proportions to their population than any other ethnic group.  Please visit the Lumbee Tribe's Veteran Resource Center at 204 West 3rd Street, Pembroke, NC.  The exhibit will be on display from April 17, 2017 through July 31, 2017, 8 am to 5 pm.  This event is open to the public. ARTS ON ELM

Featuring gardens in full bloom and arts on the porches of residences along beautiful Elm Street. Walk about and enjoy the ambiance of Lumberton’s Historic Elm Street, a location famous for being filmed in several movies, providing the setting for several novels, hosting nostalgic holiday parades and parties, and guaranteeing relaxing strolls during many years of spring garden tours. Porches and yards will spill over with artists painting “En Plein Air,” paintings framed and for sale, opportunities for adults and children to paint, weave, sculpt, and be creative on site. There will be garden sculptures, plants, seeds and everything springtime.  You will be encouraged to stroll, stop, shop, and rock a while in rockers hand painted by local artists.  Sip a lemonade or enjoy tea and crumpets! In the evening, come to the Arts Council for a refreshing drink and a viewing of the finished artwork from the day of “En Plein Air” painting. 2017 Lumbee Powwow ~ Dance of the Spring Moon

The Lumbee Tribe will host its 12th Annual Dance of the Spring Moon Powwow.  This event will feature a Living History Exhibit, Stickball Games, Powwow Dancing, Food vendors and a variety of fine arts and jewelry from individual artists.  Drum contest winners will be awarded prize money ranging from $2000 to $8000; dance contestants’ will compete for prize money ranging from $400 to $1000 for adults; $100 to $500 for teens; and $75 to $200 for the Boys and Girls categories.  Grand entries will be held Friday 7 pm, Saturday at Noon & 7 pm, Sunday 1 pm. The United Way of Robeson County will present the 1st Lip Sync Battle as a fundraiser for the 2017 campaign. The event will be held Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the Carolina Civic Center, 315 N. Chestnut Street, Lumberton, N.C.  Prior to the show there will be hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine for ticket holders across the street at 308 N. Chestnut Street (the old Progressive Bank Building) from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  The show starts at 7:00 p.m. with groups of local folks lip syncing to some of our most memorable songs.  Come join us for a fun filled evening where we can all sit back and be entertained by people we know. The theater welcomes back a favorite touring big band from last year to perfectly complement the setting of our historic theater that first opened in 1928 – just 10 years before the original version of this famous big band was formed. The 2017 LUMBEE Nation Economic Summit will focus on Business Opportunities that have arisen due to the horrific devastation and aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, which ravaged southeastern NC on October 8, 2016. Attendees of the Summit will benefit from high caliber networking and workshops with members of Congress, Tribal leaders, federal, state, and local officials, top tier business leaders, business school and occupational practitioners, and highly successful entrepreneurs. An entrepreneurs' workshop, together with a tradeshow, traditional Indian food sampling, and an American Indian Artisan Market will provide a variety of learning opportunities. The Summit is strongly supported by Federal and State officials and is a conduit to today's and future new American Indian enterprises. ANNUAL LUMBER RIVER DAY

Come out to the park for a day of family fun and activities as the park celebrates its 8th Annual Lumber River Day Festival on Saturday, July 15th, 2017.  The festival will go from 9am-2pm.  Come out and see some beautifully restored antique tractors and listen to some great bluegrass music.  Learn about the animals along the Lumber River from the exhibitors including Wildlife Action and the USDA exhibit.  There will be free canoe rides all day long, along with many activities for the kids including a casting contest, pony rides, miniature train rides, and bouncy house and slide in a new inside house.  There will be food available for lunch and snacks along with ice cream and frozen treats to tame the heat or you can bring a picnic lunch. An Evening on the Red Carpet Benefit Fundraising Auction
