9/12 - 9/14 COWBOY UP
This year’s festivities kick off on Friday night with a “Hot Heels Roping” event. This event will allow novice riders who want to give steer roping a try with a mechanical bull pulled by a gator. The mechanical bull looks and acts somewhat like a real steer without the risks or intimidation of a real cow. This is a great way for beginners and folks who want to give it a try to have an opportunity to gain some experience. On Saturday morning we begin our day with Barrel Racing. This event will feature a Pee Wee, Youth and Open Division with an added jackpot totaling $1,000! About 5:00 p.m. the Ranch Sorting will begin. Last year’s event featured 150 team sorting teams and this year’s event is shaping up to be just as exciting. This event will have a $500 added jackpot and has divisions for every level of competition. We have designated Sunday as our “Kids Day”. The day begins with Cowboy Church at 11:00 a.m. in the main arena. Church is followed by our “Special Needs Kids Rodeo”. A new event this year will allow 20 kids from the area a once in a lifetime opportunity to compete in a “rodeo”. We will divide the kids up into four groups of five. There are four competition points in the course of the rodeo. The first point will be an actual ride on a horse. The participant will be allowed to get on and be led around a ring to get the feel of a real horse. The second point will be “roping the bull” giving kids a chance to rope a dummy “bull” and a few lessons in “how to”. From there they move on to the “barrel racing”. This is done on stick horses over an obstacle course similar, but smaller than a traditional barrel race. The fourth and final point features an education series where we teach them the parts of a horse, some basic information and give them a coloring book. All participants in this event will be awarded a Cowboy hat and a Southern Horse Festival trophy buckle for their efforts. Following the “Special Needs Kids Rodeo” we will be hosting a “Kids Rodeo. This event will be similar in design to the “Special Needs” and the first 50 kids will receive a Cowboy hat! All participants in this event will receive a special ribbon achievement to show that everyone who tries is a true champion. Full Concessions. Admission is FREE! All profits from this show will be donated to the Southeastern Ag Center for Development through the NC Horse Council Foundation. For further information you may contact: Sue Gray, 919-854-1990 or suegray@mindspring.com or Rose Cushing, rose@carolinahoofbeats.com or 252-235-7645.

Nosferatu: eine Symphonie des Grauens (translated as Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror) is the classic 1922 German Expressionist silent horror film, directed by F.W. Murnau, starring Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok. Composer Eric Schwartz’s original music for Nosferatu is a juxtaposition of a variety of elements: not simply “audio wallpaper”, Schwartz’s score is living, breathing, and occasionally screaming commentary on the action on screen, the silent film tradition, and the entire horror genre. 1/15 - 2/26 ART EXHIBITS: Particulates of Light ~ Artwork of Jim Hurst
Opening Reception 5:30-7pm on January 15th. When an artist applies paint to canvas, they are in effect painting light. As light is made of particles of energy, spray paint is made of particulates of pigment. I came across this spray paint art form only a few years ago and explored its potential to create art, and I found spray paint can emulate light that leaves the piece with a pleasing glow, drawing the viewer like a moth toward the light placed on canvas. 4/23 Rapunzel! Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale
Visit an enchanted fairy tale land with dragons, a handsome prince, an evil would-be Queen, a really great hair stylist, and that famous princess with the long, long, long hair! Hold on to your hair and prepare for a brand new magical musical re-telling of the classic fairy tale! On the edge of glory, the evil Lady Za Za determines to rule the kingdom by keeping the beautiful Princess Rapunzel - with the long, long, long hair - trapped in a tower in the deep, dark, dank, dismal, dreary forest. It’ll be up to Sir Roderick and his hair stylist friend Edgar (who is on a quest to find the perfect head of hair) to rescue Princess Rapunzel and restore the kingdom - with the help of a slightly neurotic Gypsy Woman - isn't there one in every fairy tale? and a tired, yet witty, old dragon named Socrates - who has lost his poof! Approx. Length: 60 minutes. Tickets are $7 for Students/ $8 for Teachers/ $10 Adults. For more information call 910.521.6287.
