5/10 Suzanne Vega in Special Mother’s Day Concert
Widely regarded as one of the most brilliant songwriters of her generation , Suzanne Vega is touring as a duo with her amazing guitarist Gerry Leonard (David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, Chris Botti, etc) in support of her new album, “Songs of Family.” Suzanne Vega has reached in the top 10 of various international charts with “Luka” and “Tom’s Diner” both from her sophomore album, Solitude Standing and has gone on to release over eight albums, live CDs and DVDs, and career retrospectives. In 2010, Vega began to release several volumes entitled Close Up which finds her re-imagining songs from her vast catalog in a stripped down, unadorned setting, placing emphasis on her lyrical talent and hushed melodic sensibility. The first three volumes have received worldwide critical acclaim, Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk-music revival of the early 1980s when, accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, she sang what has been labeled contemporary folk or neo-folk songs of her own creation in Greenwich Village clubs. Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album, she has given sold-out concerts in many of the world’s best-known halls. In performances devoid of outward drama that nevertheless convey deep emotion, Vega sings in a distinctive, clear vibrato-less voice that has been described as “a cool, dry sandpaper- brushed near-whisper” and as “plaintive but disarmingly powerful.” Tickets are $25 or $20 with the advance purchase of ten or more as a group. Perfect for churches and other organizations - or just a group of friends!

Robeson County’s favorite country star returns for a special performance with his acoustic trio. A regular participant in the annual WKML Singer-Songwriter Showcase held at the theater, Jeff thrills local audiences with his candid songwriting and unique and “travelled” voice Jeff Bates has been a staple in country music for nearly 10 years, since breaking onto the scene with his deep, sexy voice, cranking out hits such as “Long Slow Kisses,” “The Love Song” and “I Wanna Make You Cry.” All this time later, Bates is still delivering the music his fans want to hear, more so now than ever. And that is exactly what he is doing, not only with just one album, but several that are currently in the works. Bates, a huge Conway Twitty fan, has started a new record simply titled, Me and Conway.
